Super Saturday (Financial Aid Event), Feb. 9, 2013, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
At Super Saturday, find out everything you need to know about financial aid to pay for college, such as scholarships, grants, direct loans and work-study. Receive one-on-one assistance in completing FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The FAFSA is the form used by the U.S. Dept. of Education and colleges, universities and career-technical schools across the country to determine eligibility for student federal financial aid. This event is sponsored annually by the Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (VASFAA) and PVCC. Nelson County High School also plans to hold a Super Saturday event in Lovingston the same day.

10th Grade Career Fair -- 2013 (Date to be announced)
During the 10th Grade Career Day at PVCC, students learn about careers and the education and training required for success. Students hear from two different speakers in career areas of interest for 45 minutes each. More than 125 area business professionals serve as presenters in the career sessions. The event serves over 2,000 10th graders from the schools of Albemarle, Charlottesville, Fluvanna, Greene and Nelson.
Choose or Lose -- Spring 2013 (Date to be announced)
Choose or Lose is the PVCC annual outreach event introducing high school seniors from the 10 local high schools to PVCC programs and resources. This spring, through hands-on activities and lively competition, students are encouraged to consider their future career possibilities through higher education. These interactive challenges showcase various programs of study at PVCC and are held on the stage in Dickinson Theatre. Students will be randomly selected to come to the stage and participate while their fellow students cheer them on. Judges are onsite to assign scores to each high school for each challenge and award prizes.

The kids from Greene Co. were excited and motivated by the information they received during the program. They were almost all first generation students and for most of them college has seemed to be an unreachable goal.
Through your efforts and Andrew's performance, these kids were actively engaged on the trip home discussing ways they could stay at University Place, get jobs on campus and take classes at PVCC.
As we were leaving and during our quick return bus ride to Monticello, I checked to see how the students felt about the day, whether they thought it was a worthwhile event, and asked if they would recommend it for students next year. I received an overwhelming "yes" from all students, I later received several emails from teachers who said that the attendees were so excited about the day and wanted to share what they had experienced with other students.
A senior, who previously was thinking about taking a "Gap Year," has decided to enroll at PVCC for the Fall 2011 semester.
The students were so excited when they came back. It is great to see all the energy. Thank you.

Charlottesville Community Career Conference October 2013 (Date and time to be announced), John Paul Jones Arena
The event is free and open to the public. This all-day event will use panel discussions and other valuable resources to help educate job seekers on how to market themselves to top employers in the local community. Throughout the day, attendees can visit the resource area to get help with résumé review, interviewing and online job searching. Community resource agencies will also be available to offer information on employment services.
Tech Tour, October 2013 @ PVCC for High School and Middle School Students (Day to be announced)
The Charlottesville Business Innovation Council (CBIC) Tech Tour is a local event that introduces over 300 middle and high school students to the high technology world that exists in the Charlottesville/Albemarle County metro region. This day-long technology tour is aimed at exposing students to the diverse career possibilities offered by our regional technology community. It is designed to help students envision themselves as technology employees, professionals and entrepreneurs in the next wave of high tech advancements in our area. Students representing regional schools spend the day traveling to over 50 selected companies for a hands-on visit to meet employees and experience the use of technology in unique and specialized operations. Tech Tour helps students make the connection between the technology-related careers they envision themselves in and the career pathway they will need to get there. High school and middle school students who would like to attend should contact their local high schools.

GED Reception Dinner @ PVCC, November 2013 (Day to be announced)
PVCC hosts the GED Reception Dinner annually on our campus to honor the GED graduates in our service region. A workshop is offered after the dinner to inform and prepare graduates for the next step in their education, to assist with the PVCC application and financial aid forms, and to answer questions about programs of study and the enrollment process. Graduates interested in applying for financial aid should bring a copy of their 2012 tax returns as income information is required on financial aid forms. Graduates who complete the financial aid form will be eligible for a drawing for a voucher for a free one-credit preselected class at PVCC.
